Dystopian Novels

Dystopia: an imaginary place where people lead dehumanized and often fearful lives.
~ Merriam-Webster

So what characterizes a Dystopian novel?

There are various opinion on what constitutes a dystopian novel. For the purposes of this blog a book put into this genre is basically a title that is set in a society that presents an illusion of being perfect, or as perfect as possible considering the bleak condition the world is presented to be in. This perfect society is likely obtained through oppressive control of the members which must adhere to strict guidelines, rules, and regulations. These titles are very often set in the future and have an exaggerated worst-case scenario outlook.

This short video does a good job of explaining the differences between dystopias and utopias.
