Teen Talk

What teens are saying about reading....

Justin C., age 15

1. What is your favorite type of book to read?
My favorite types of books are fantasy.
2. Do you ever read Dystopian novels, such as the Hunger Games, The Giver, or The Uglies series?
Yes, I read dystopian types of books. What I like best about these books is they show lives of people who don't fit in with the new society because I can kinda relate to the characters.
3. How do you decide what to read?
I decide to read a book by if the book sounds like a good book to read.
4. Do you ever use social media such as blogs, Facebook, or Twitter? If so, do any of these influence what you read?
No, I don't use social media.
5. What are you reading now?
The book I am reading now is called Mark of Athena, the 3rd book in the Heroes of Olympus series by Rick Riordan.
6. What book would you recommend to other teens?
The series of books I would recommend other teens read is the Percy Jackson series because it is about dragon riders and dragon fighting the forces of evil.

Devon B., age 12

1. What is your favorite type of book to read?
Fantasy
2. Do you ever read Dystopian novels, such as the Hunger Games, The Giver, or The Uglies series?
Yes. I like how the author describes what they imagine a possible world could be like in the future. It often gets me thinking of things I can do to help preserve the earth for as long as we can.
3. How do you decide what to read?
I talk with friends and also read the back of books to see if the subject or characters would appeal to me.
4. Do you ever use social media such as blogs, Facebook, or Twitter? If so, do any of these influence what you read?
No.
5. What are you reading now?
Rereading Fablehaven series
6. What book would you recommend to other teens?
I think everybody that is into magic should read Eragon. Otherwise, you should just read what makes you happy or what makes you "think".

Courtney F., age 17

1. What is your favorite type of book to read?
I love to read books placed in the future, love stories, fantasy. I am also into mythical "history", and have read a few biographies.
2. Do you ever read Dystopian novels, such as the Hunger Games, The Giver, or The Uglies series?
Yes, I've read the Hunger Games, Uglies, Delirium, and Fahrenheit. Probably even more but I can't think of them. I like high tech stuff and to see what other people think the future would be.
3. How do you decide what to read?
I just read a chapter or two ans skip around in the book to see if it captivates me.
4. Do you ever use social media such as blogs, Facebook, or Twitter? If so, do any of these influence what you read?
I use them but they don't (influence what I read). A lot of teens I've noticed read a lot of required reading so we do not get to read our won books with the lack of time.
5. What are you reading now?
I am currently reading Smile for the Camera and Ethan Frome.
6. What book would you recommend to other teens?
I would recommend The Hunger Games, Delirium, Maximum Ride, and a few others because they are captivating and I could not put them down. They have a hint of love but not too much.
